These are some recent pattern sketches I have made. I see them used in clothing applications and upholstery.

Solenoid Loom

The Solenoid Loom is a master's thesis that answers the question: How can weaving logic be applied outside the field of textiles?

As an answer, the thesis proposes an electromechanical tile patterning tool, the Solenoid Loom. By functioning according to the same principles as punch-card looms, the machine automates the patterning process of handmade tiles. Using the Solenoid Loom falls between craft and industrial production, intertwining desired features from the manufacturing fields represented by punch card weaving and handmade tile production.

The Solenoid Loom reads black and white pattern cards hand-drawn by the machine operator. As the operator pulls the Solenoid Loom over the pattern card and a clay tile, it transfers the pattern as an 8x8 pixel grid imprinted by an array of solenoid actuators.

Using the Solenoid Loom reduces the control of the craftsperson, but in return, it offers a distinctive style, repeatability, and efficiency in the manufacturing process. The result of the thesis is a fully functional proof-of-concept that offers a new production method for patterning tiles.

Kitchen for Cocina Abierta

Cocina Abierta is a project that started in August 2023 and is ongoing. It is a project by Alicia Romero Fernandez and Florencia Pochinki.

They ordered a transportable outdoor kitchen, consisting of two tables on wheels with storage space. The wooden structure is treated with linseed oil and the storage is done utilizing the eurobox system.

Souvenirs from Shigaraki

A series of ceramic sculptures that were made as a form of visual
research that documented my stay in Shigaraki, Japan. The series of 20 works include a 1/2 sized AC unit, a nuclear powerplant and a dead mantis among other sculptures.

The project was done at Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, and funded by Finnish Institute in Japan.

Cafe Pastissi

A two day coffee shop experience in the cozy Yanaka neighbourhood in Tokyo. Cafe Pastissi was done in collaboration with Misa Asanuma, where we created our dream cafe in Totan Tokyo, a gallery in a traditional Japanese residental house.

We served pour over coffee,  cookies, engergy drinks and highballs (staff favourite). The coffee was served from handpinched cups accompanied with a hand-drawn napkin zine.
